about

"One of the tightest and most virtuosic old-time bands ever"-- Gail Gillespie, editor, Old-Time Herald magazine

"This has to be some of the best old-time to be put on record since the 1920s!" --Jon Anderson

Traditional old-time fiddler and singer Brad Leftwich backed up by the original Humdingers: Bob Herring on guitar, Randy Marmouze on banjo, and Linda Higginbotham on banjo-uke. Most cuts are from a 1992 cassette release recorded in Brad & Linda's living room around one mike; additional cuts with Ray Alden on banjo are live stage recordings from 1993. After Brad won first place fiddle and the band won first-place traditional band at the inaugural Appalachian Stringband Festival in Clifftop, West Virginia in 1990, the Bloomington, Indiana-based group of friends went on to play semi-professionally for several years in this configuration joined by Dirk Powell on bass.

He learned directly from such masters as Tommy Jarrell & Melvin Wine. He and his wife, Linda, live in Bloomington, Indiana. ... more
