From a 1927 recording of the Cofer Brothers from Georgia. They did it in the key of G, but we’ve recast it in F (the most plaintive of keys). There is speculation that the chorus refers to the Diamond Jo, a steamboat built by one Joseph Reynolds in the 19th century, whose logo was a JO inside a diamond. That’s Linda and Abby providing harmony on the chorus. Fiddle tuned GDAE.
